Dig Alderney investigates and promotes the archaeology of the island of Alderney, in the Channel Islands. We conduct research, excavations and surveys, plus post-excavation work. Publication of our discoveries and public engagement via lectures, broadcast media and online resources is an integral part of our mission.
Our team of qualified archaeologists and experienced excavators are all volunteers. Dig Alderney’s projects are financed by charitable donations and direct support from Channel Islands institutions.
Chair – Dr Phil de Jersey MA FSA
Dr de Jersey is the States Archaeologist for the island of Guernsey. A graduate of Oxford University Institute of Archaeology, he is an acknowledged expert in the Iron Age, especially its coinage. Phil narrates his excavations via the Guernsey Archaeology Youtube Channel.
Secretary – Dr Jason Monaghan BSc
Dr Monaghan was formerly the Director of Guernsey Museums and Head of Heritage Services for Guernsey. He specialises in Roman pottery and worked in York and Kent in addition to the Guernsey Roman shipwreck project. Dr Isabel Picornel MA – Treasurer
Dr Isabel Picornell is an ex-archaeologist with an MA in Practical Archaeology from The University of Birmingham. She got tired of living in tents and being bitten by scorpions and so moved into forensic linguistics.
