2024-25 – Les Huguettes

This page is under development September 2026

The site on the crest of the ridge at Les Huguettes was discovered during construction work for the new Alderney golf course and excavated between 1968 and 1970 by Ken and Peggy Wilson. They found a partly round stone structure, identified a pottery-making workshop and recovered some 60 kg of pottery. A radiocarbon date of490 +/- 100 BCE was obtained.

Excavations led by Phil de Jersey in 2025 immediately to the west of this site indicated that a further, similar structure survived. However, his investigations in 2024 showed that if settlement extended further to the east, any evidence has been lost. The excavation will be published in the Alderney Society Bulletin LVIII in 2026.
