During May 2026, Dig Alderney supported by Guernsey Museum Archaeology investigated the site known as Whitegates. This stands on the high ground overlooking Longis, adjacent to the railway track. Whitegates was a Victorian building constructed the house some of the British garrison but was later used for civilian housing. Being beyond reasonable repair, it was demolished in anticipation of the site being redeveloped for social housing.

Dr Phil de Jersey directed excavations over three weeks, primarily investigating extensive prehistoric levels. His formal report will be published in a future volume of the Alderney Society Bulletin. Phil narrated the daily progress of the excavation for the Guernsey Archaeology Youtube Channel, which can be found by following this link.
